Highway Sniper Inspired By Parkland Gunman Wounds Three

Police say the gunman who opened fire on cars on Georiga highway left a note in his apartment that proclaimed he was inspired by the 19-year-old who killed 17 people at his former high school in Florida. The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Rex Whitmire Harbour shot seven cars, sending two people the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A third person was wounded by broken glass.

Officers responded to the call of shots fired and saw Habour's beige-colored Buick fleeing the scene. After a brief chase, Harbour shot himself and died from his injuries en route to the hospital.

Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch said police found three 9mm pistols, a 12-gauge shotgun, a BB gun and over 3,400 rounds of ammunition in his car. They also found a camera which captured Harbour concealing himself in the woods, where he opened fire on the passing cars. There were 17 shell casings littered around the area of the woods that he was hiding.

When officers searched Harbour's home, they discovered a hand-written note, which proclaimed that he was inspired by the student who killed his former classmates at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Couch told reporters that Harbour "idolized" him, calling him a  "hero" who gave him "courage and confidence."

Police said that the guns were not stolen and he had no history of violence or criminal record.
