Wild Video Captures Highway Shootout Following Traffic Stop

Dash camera video from police involved shooting

Pennslyvania police have released wild dashcam video from a shootout between police and a suspect who they were trying to arrest for driving under the influence. The incident occurred on November 7, 2017, and nearly cost one of the officers his life.

Pennslyvania State Troopers Ryan Seiple and Seth Kelly had pulled over 22-year-old Daniel Clary for speeding on Route 33, near Bethlehem and were attempting to arrest him for suspicion of driving under the influence. Clary resisted and the officers fired tasers at him. He managed to shake off the tasers and grabbed a gun from inside his car and started shooting at the officers.

Officer Kelly was shot in the neck and leg and can be seen crawling for cover as cars speed past on the busy highway. Clary then managed to get back into his vehicle and drive away. He ended up at a local hospital with multiple gunshot wounds, including one to his head. Clary was convicted last month of multiple felonies, including the attempted murder of two officers, and faces decades in prison.

The video was released following a lawsuit from The Morning Call, which claimed the public had a right to see the video since it was used as evidence during Clary's trial. The day before a judge was set to hear the case, the police released the footage.

First Deputy District Attorney Terence Houck explained that it was always his intention to release the video, but he needed to clear it with the officers involved before making it public.

“Our concerns have always been the victims, the state troopers in this matter, protecting them,” Houck said. “But after speaking with them, they wanted it released, as did I.”
