19-Year-Old Faked Her Own Kidnapping To Extort Her Father

Abbygail Farley

A 19-year-old woman from Kentucky has been arrested after she was accused of faking her own kidnapping in an attempt to extort $400 from her father. Police said that Abbygail Farley's father Mark reported his daughter missing after he received text messages demanding the money for her release. The messages said Abbygail would be killed if Mark failed to deliver the cash.

The tests, which came from his daughter's phone as well as a number he did not recognize, gave him a location to drop off the money. Police advised Mark to drop off the money while they surveilled the area. They were able to ping Abbygail's phone and traced it to a nearby apartment complex.

When they found her, she admitted that it was all a hoax and explained to the officers that she needed the money to flee the area because she was in fear of her life, but they believe she wanted the cash to fuel her drug habit

Farley was charged with falsely reporting an incident, theft by extortion, and disorderly conduct.
