Man Who Filmed Fatal Shooting Of Ahmaud Arbery Arrested On Murder Charge

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has arrested the man who filmed the fatal encounter between Ahmaud Arbery and Travis and Gregory McMichael. 50-year-old William "Roddie" Bryan Jr. is facing charges of felony murder and criminal attempt to commit false imprisonment.

Authorities said that Bryan joined in the McMichaels' pursuit of Arbery, and allegedly blocked Arbery as he tried to elude the father and son, who believed he was a burglar.

"McMichael stated the unidentified male turned around and began running back the direction from which he came, and 'Roddy' attempted to block him in which was unsuccessful," an officer wrote in the police report.

The McMichaels eventually caught up to Arbery, who got into a physical altercation with Travis over his shotgun. Arbery was shot and killed during the fight.

The lawyers representing Arbery's parents issued a statement praising authorities for arresting Bryan.

"His involvement in the murder of Mr. Arbery was obvious to us, to many around the country, and after their thorough investigation, it was clear to the GBI as well," attorneys S. Lee MerrittBenjamin Crump and L. Chris Stewart said in a statement.

Bryan's attorney, Kevin Gough, has not commented on his client's arrest but has previously stated that Bryan did not commit a crime.

"Roddie is a family man, NASCAR fan, and enjoys rock and roll. He is not now, and never has been, a 'vigilante,'" Gough said in a statement earlier this month.
