CDC Changes Guidelines On Wearing Masks Indoors For Fully Vaccinated People

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is easing indoor mask-wearing guidance for fully vaccinated people, and this will allow them to safely stop wearing masks inside in most places.

The new guidance will still call for wearing masks in crowded indoor settings like hospitals, prisons and homeless shelters and crowded public transportation like buses and planes, but could ease restrictions for reopening many workplaces and schools across the country.

"If you are fully vaccinated, you can start doing the things that you had stopped doing because of the pandemic," Dr. Rochelle Walensky said during a White House Covid-19 briefing.

It will also no longer recommend that fully vaccinated people wear masks outdoors in crowds. Walensky also said the science supports the new recommendation that "anyone who is fully vaccinated can participate in indoor and outdoor activities -- large or small -- without wearing a mask or physically distancing."
