A Florida woman was relieved when an Uber driver rescued her from being sexually assaulted, but her nightmare was just beginning. Authorities said that Jorge Calderon Nunez, 30, was sexually assaulting the woman when Kerry Calvin Gasag, 37, broke up the attack.
Gasag then helped the victim into his vehicle and drove her to Southernmost Point, a popular tourist spot in Key West. He allegedly forced her out of his SUV and proceeded to sexually assault her behind the landmark.
Somebody in Boston was watching a live webcam of the famous destination and called the local police to report what he believed was a rape in progress.
Gasag was taken into custody the next day and charged with sexual assault, false imprisonment, and destroying evidence. He told police he returned to the scene to collect the victim's jean shorts and disposed of them on his drive home.
He denied raping the victim, claiming the sexual encounter was consensual. Authorities disputed his claim, citing surveillance camera footage showing the woman trying to run away.
Calderon Nunez was arrested a week later and charged with sexual assault. He is also facing burglary charges stemming from an unrelated incident.
Calderon Nunez's bail was set at $225,000, while Gasag's is being held on a bond of $175,000.
