Trace Cyrus called his father, country star Billy Ray Cyrus, โ€œa washed up, delusional, evil person,โ€ in a scathing statement he posted on Instagram on Tuesday (June 10).

Billy Ray, 63, shares Trace, 36, with ex-wife Tish Cyrus, 58. Billy Ray and Tish divorced in 2022 after nearly three decades of marriage (Tish previously said she โ€œnever wanted to be divorced,โ€ but she โ€œdidnโ€™t have a choiceโ€). They also shareย Brandi Cyrus, 38 โ€” the โ€œAchy Breaky Heartโ€ star adopted Brandi and Trace when he married their mother โ€” Braison Cyrus, 31,ย and daughtersย Miley Cyrus, 32, andย Noah Cyrus, 25. Billy Ray is also a father to sonย Christopher Cody Cyrus, 32, from a previous relationship. In part of Traceโ€™s statement, he accused Billy Ray of skipping his grandmotherโ€™s funeral (Tishโ€™s mother, who died in 2020, shortly before Tish and Billy Ray split up).

โ€œThis man is so hungry for fame itโ€™s pathetic,โ€ Trace wrote. โ€œHe really flew to Italy for a fashion show but wouldnโ€™t come to LA for Mammieโ€™s funeral while he was still married to my mom. Even after his daughter got him a 60K private jet like he demanded then he still didnโ€™t come even after the plane was paid for. Youโ€™re the lamest man to ever walk planet earth. Honestly embarrassed to ever have considered you my idol,โ€ he wrote with a clown emoji. โ€œThe best thing to come from your downfall is it made me go into beast mode. I refuse to be a washed up, delusional, evil person when Iโ€™m old like you. Christ is King. Get right with God. You need it.โ€

A representative for Billy Ray declined to comment when reached by multiple news outlets.

Trace also spoke out about Billy Ray after his Liberty Ball performance on Presidentย Donald Trumpโ€™s Inauguration Day. Trace said at that time, in part, that he and others in the family had โ€œbeen genuinely worried about you for years but youโ€™ve pushed all of us away.โ€ Days later, Trace alleged that Billy Ray โ€œthreaten[ed] me with legal action for warning you to get help.โ€ Billy Ray shared a statement around that time saying that he was โ€œpraying for my family. โ€ฆLet this moment be the start of healing.โ€

As of publication time on Wednesday (June 11), Billy Rayโ€™s latest post on Instagram is a sneak peek of unreleased music. He wrote in his caption that heโ€™s โ€œbeen workinโ€™ on somethinโ€™ real close to my heartโ€ฆ A song that carries hope, history, and harmony โ€” all in support of the @thenmaamย National Museum of African American Music right here in Nashville.โ€ The song will release on June 27.
