TMSG: Surfer Presented With Award After Saving Man & Dog From Canal

26-year-old Darby Voeks of Minneapolis is being honored with a life-saving award after saving two lives on Lake Superior.

According to the Duluth Fire Department, a dog got loose and found himself in the water in the canal by the Aerial Lift Bridge. While rescue crews were on the way, a person had gone in after the dog.

Voeks was about to wrap up his surfing session, but decided to stay for one more wave. That's when the owner of the dog pleaded with Voeks to help the dog and the man in the water. She told him that her aide had jumped in after the dog in an attempt to rescue it. Voeks was able to use his surfboard to help swim both the person and the dog to shore.

The Duluth Fire and Police departments then presented Voeks with the life-saving award for his heroic actions.
